Prunedale food truck looking for answers after they were forced to close down
PRUENDALE, Calif.- A local food truck had to close their operations in Prunedale over a permit dispute on Thursday afternoon.
Tacos El Jerry has been in business for a decade at multiple locations on the Central Coast.
However, three weeks ago they were told their Taco Truck in Prunedale had to close down.
Ana Jimenez who is the owner of Tacos El Jerry was left puzzled by the decision.
"We were quite surprised," Jimenez said." How is it possible that someone just comes and tells us we can't operate anymore."
Jimenez said that White Fire Dispensary told her the food truck had to stop operating in the dispensary's parking lot after being notified by a Monterey County employee.
A County spokesperson confirmed to KION that an employee told the dispensary owner the shop needed a permit indicating a food truck can operate in their parking lot.
Nick Pasculli who is the Communications Director for the County of Monterey said that there was no direct contact with the food truck vendor and no formal case has been opened.
Pasculli told KION that the food truck is allowed to return to the site so long as the dispensary gets the necessary permits per the County's Housing and Community Development Codes.
Jimenez said she will be looking into what codes they need to follow to serve customers in Prunedale.
"They are very special to us," Jimenez said. "Right now we are focusing on them and we're very proud to be serving that community."
County officials said that both Housing and Community Development and Environmental Health Bureau are offering to assist the food truck owner so they will be able to operate in Prunedale.
