Body found in sea near Moran Beach, cause under investigation

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV)- The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office said that they recovered a dead body in the ocean just off of Moran Beach on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a spokesperson with the Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to Moran Beach along with Harbor Patrol and State Parks for reports of a unresponsive individual in the water around 4:30 p.m.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene and began life-saving efforts but deputies say the individual was pronounced dead on scene.

The Sheriff's Office Coroner's Unit will be investigating the cause and manner of death and are working to notify the next of kin.
