Hollister Independence Rally returns this July in a two-day event

HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Hollister is ready to welcome back its annual Independence Bike Rally after an eight-year hiatus.

This July 4th & 5th, downtown Hollister is gearing up to welcome the rally first held in 1947.

The Independence Bike Rally welcomes motorcyclists to ride through San Benito County's scenic winding roads. Often called the "Birthplace of the American Biker," the rally is one of the oldest in the country and has integrated itself into the history of Hollister.

The event was canceled in 2017 due to safety concerns around the minimal security available to handle such an event.

Over the past seven years, the city's law enforcement has been finding ways to bring back the event with the proper amount of security for the city's size. After finally working out staffing and security issues, 2025 marks the return of the beloved tradition.

When the event went into hiatus, business owners on San Benito Street voiced how the rally benefited the city and its locally owned stores and restaurants.

Live music, food, rides, and bike shows are scheduled for the rally.
