The Warmth Is Getting Closer

The persistent area of low pressure that has brought us days of clouds and rain will finally depart tomorrow. In the meantime, one more round of light rain is likely, rotating in tonight from the north. High pressure will slowly build in from the southwest in the coming days, though a strong trough across the west will try to delay it. Sandwiched in between, we will remain in a slightly cool northwest flow. High temperatures will be much more seasonable, but are not expected to be above normal until next week. With the onshore flow, we can expect round of morning/evening low clouds for the coast and adjacent valleys. There are some indications high pressure may win out by mid-week, which would send temps above normal, but another weak system is also poised to drop down the coast shortly thereafter, which would lead to cooler, cloudier conditions—and perhaps the next chance of rain.

Overnight:
Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers. Partial clearing by dawn, though some patchy fog is possible as well. Lows in the 40s to low 50s.

Friday: Partly cloudy with a few sprinkles possible over the hills. Some low cloudcover will return to coastal areas in the afternoon and evening. Warmer, with coastal highs in the 60s and 60s to low 70s inland. Breezy for inland valleys in the afternoon.

Saturday: Low clouds and fog on the coast and adjacent valleys in the morning, then mostly sunny. Still a bit cool on the coast with highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s, but warmer inland with mid 60s to mid 70s. Breezy for inland valleys in the afternoon.

Extended: Similar conditions will persist through Sunday and Monday with patchy low clouds on the coast and seasonable to slightly cool temps. Clouds will thin a bit into mid-week with slight warming for all areas. Watching for the next weak weather system toward the end of next week.

The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for April 17th-23rd calls for the likelihood of ABOVE normal temperatures and BELOW normal precipitation.
