SAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV)- The California Highway Patrol confirmed to KION that at least one person has died in a solo vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon.
CAL FIRE confirmed on scene that at least one person died in a crash that happened on Highway 156 just eastbound west of Monterey Street.
The crash took place before 2 p.m.
Officers said that a 37-year-old Chualar man that is being identified as Jorje Overa Cisneros was driving a gold Honda Accord eastbound on Highway 156 west of Monterey Street at 70 miles per hour in wet roadway conditions.
Cisneros told officers that he drove through standing water in the roadway which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
Investigators said that the Honda Accord went down a dirt embankment and overturned causing the passenger side of the vehicle to hit a tree.
Firefighters found a 25-year-old Castroville woman in the front passenger seat who sustained major injuries. Firefighters said the woman died at the scene.
Officers said Jorje Overa Cisneros was transported to Natividad Medical Center for moderate injuries and he was arrested.
Cisneros will be facing multiple charges including gross vehicular manslaughter. Investigators said that Cisneros was driving under the influence of a stimulant and cannabis at the time of the crash.
