16-year-old Hollister boy dead in two-car crash on Maher Road

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV)- The California Highway Patrol said that a 16-year-old boy has died in a two car crash that took place last Friday afternoon.

Officers said that the crash happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Maher Road near Tamara Lane just outside of Royal Oaks.

Officers said a 17-year-old Hollister boy was speeding when their white Honda Accord was going south on Maher Road and crossed the double yellow lines.

A 29-year-old Watsonville man was driving a Honda Fit northbound on Maher Road around 30 miles per hour. The driver of the Accord failed to make a slight turn in the road and crashed into the Honda Fit.

Investigators said that the Honda rolled over and the driver and the 16-year-old passenger were not wearing seatbelts were ejected from the vehicle.

The 16-year-old passenger died of his injures at the scene. The 17-year-old Hollister boy and the 29-year-old Watsonville man were transported to Natividad Medical Center with major injuries.
