Second suspect arrested in Santa Cruz County pursuit and shooting investigation

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. (KION) -- UPDATE 12:22 p.m. 1/27/22: CHP Santa Cruz said they have arrested a woman who was the allged driver involved in a shooting and pursuit with CHP officers on Tuesday morning.

Alexandria Luevanos was arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.

UPDATE 1:31 p.m. 1/26/22: CHP-Santa Cruz confirms a man was arrested for allegedly shooting at CHP officers during a pursuit in Santa Cruz County.

The CHP said the chase started on Highway 17 near Glenwood Drive after officers were trying to make contact with people who were in a vehicle in the area.

Investigators said the female driver sped away from officers, leading them on a pursuit on the highway before exiting into the Scotts Valley area.

CHP-Santa Cruz said moments after entering Scotts Valley city limits, a male occupant in the vehicle started shooting at officers.

The CHP continued its pursuit of the vehicle before getting reports of an abandoned car matching the vehicle's description on Tabor Drive in Scotts Valley.

Investigators said no one was found in the car and lifted a shelter in place order that was in place while they searched the area for the suspects.

Later, around 7 a.m., CHP-Santa Cruz said the person they believe to be the male occupant was found walking along Highway 17 near Laurel Road.

CHP officers arrested the individual but are still looking for the female driver.

She has been identified as 41-year-old Alexandria Luevanos. She was last seen wearing a pink hooded jacket, is approximately 5’7, 130 lbs with red hair.

UPDATE 10:48 a.m. 1/26/22: Scotts Valley Police is confirming one person is arrested after a pursuit by the California Highway Patrol ended in the city.

Police said the suspect was arrested off Highway 17 near Laurel without incident.

CHP-Santa Cruz has not indicated why they were in pursuit of the individual, who Scotts Valley Police said was in a vehicle with a second person.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A Shelter In Place order has been lifted after police activity early Wednesday in Scotts Valley.

Scotts Valley Police had earlier said they were searching for two people of interest.

Police later notified residents around 4:00 a.m. saying, " The previous Shelter In Place at Bethany Dr., Vine Hill School Rd., Tabor Dr. has been lifted. Residents are now able to freely come and go."

In a Facebook post, Scotts Valley Police Department announced road closures were in effect while they searched the area.
