Belen Garcia

  • Statement: I am Belen Garcia. Daughter of farm labor workers/ contractor and sister to five siblings. My family built our Greenfield home in 1968. I am a successful product of the Greenfield Elementary School District. I have degrees, credentials and certifications from various universities. I am a successful retired teacher / principal of 34 years. My calling has always been to serve my God which led to serving the people. The children are my favorite people! They are incredible and amazing thinkers. I have dedicated the last three and a half decades to help kids throughout the state of California. Children are children no matter where they live. We are responsible for their future. We must create a safe and wonderful hometown for them where they can grow to have the best life possible. It is our our responsibility to make sure they have what they need in the future. That begins with us taking care of business today. My parents taught us that taking care of the children is our number one priority. However they also said taking care of our job is number one because you need to have a job to take care of the children. I am a daughter of a patriot from World War II who taught us to love and respect this country. Many have sacrificed and given so much that it is only right that we do what we can to give back. I am who I am and I do what I do and I have what I have because of all that was first given to me. Let's let's give everything we can to our children and their families.
  • The children are our priority. We must take care of our resources so that they can have what they need in the future. We must build opportunities for them to thrive in various areas like sports, arts, recreation, leadership and education. Our children should have a safe place to sleep and plenty to eat. They should feel safe in our schools, parks, and every where. They need places for recreation that they can use all year. They need places where they can food, clothing, school supplies, and medical attention.
  • Infrastructure: Water& waste mangement, Fire Department, Police Department, public works, sidewalks, traffic conjestion at main intersections, lighting, alley ways, cleanliness and beautification. Transparency of the city finances toward these. Continue to assess and immediately address the needs and concerns that the public brings forth. Build trust from the community by responding as quickly as possible.
  • Downtown Corridor of El Camino Real. Create an identity and environment that draws people into our city. There are great exits from North and South 101 that can bring a flow of traffic and leave their "Green" in our businesses. Let's develop a theme for the empty lots on El Camino with businesses, trees, lighting, etc. Let's celebrate our small businesses by highlighting them monthly on social media. Let's give them resources to beautify their store fronts. Have the citizens of Greenfield come together and create a theme or identity for the City of Greenfield. We have so many bear mascots around us. I'm sure the youth can guide us with this.
