Congressional candidates, Panetta and Gorman, confident on Election Day
SALINAS, Calif. (KION)
Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D) is seeking his 3rd term representing California's 20th Congressional District in Washington DC. He is being challenged by Financial advisor and former Monterey County Republican Party Chair Jeff Gorman (R).
Both campaigns, the day before Election Day, tell KION they are feeling good about where things stand in the race.
"We're confident, but you never assume anything. We are going to continue to do our job and what we've seen is that good politics is good governing," Panetta says. Gorman tells KION "the conservative movement has gotten a surge of energy like nothing I've ever seen before. The amount of people who have bought Trump flags and driven around town and flying the U.S. flag proudly is very encouraging to me."
The 20th district represents all of Monterey County, San Benito County and parts of Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Counties.
KION will be speaking with the candidates throughout the night.
The first batch of results are expected shortly after polls close at 8 p.m.
Panetta and Gorman both advanced out of California's March 2020 Primary:
- Jimmy Panetta (D): 66.2%
- Jeff Gorman (R): 20.3%
- Adam Scow (D): 13.5%
