Man dies after being trapped under debris washed up by large wave, sheriff’s office says

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office confirms one person is dead after he was trapped under debris wished up from a large wave.

California State Parks and firefighters were called out to the scene around 11:30 a.m. on Monday at Sunset State Beach.

There they found the man trapped and transported him to a local hospital.

The sheriff's office said the man later died of his injuries.

The name of the victim is being withheld at this time until family members are notified of his passing.
