City of Santa Cruz looking to permit downtown business to expand dining to alleys

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) - The City of Santa Cruz is set to permit outdoor dining areas in alleyways next to businesses downtown.

According to the city, the idea is meant to help revitalize the downtown area and help businesses. This would be in the same manner as sidewalk dining areas.

The city points to area like Pearl Alley, where businesses like Hook and Line are looking to expand ahead of the busy summer season.

"The alleyways have attracted, you know, questionable things. But for us, we just, it feels like a great opportunity to activate an alley that's actually really, it's pretty cool lighting. It sort of has evokes european alleyways a little bit," Lejla Borovac Hook and Line Partner.

Borovac adds they're looking forward to the city to giving them the green light to add additional seating in the alley.
