Deadly crash closes Highway 156 near Flint Road in San Benito County

SAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- CHP officers are at the scene of a deadly crash along Highway 156 near Flint Road.

The CHP said one person died after a head-on collision in the area just before 6:30 a.m.

According to investigators, the driver of a Nissan Frontier was driving eastbound when his vehicle veered left into the westbound lane, crashing into a Chevy Street Rod driven by a 77-year-old man out of Los Banos.

The driver of the Nissan is expected to be okay but the Chevy driver died at the scene.

The CHP said alcohol and/or drug intoxication are not a factor in this crash but are looking for more information from any potential witnesses.

Westbound traffic is being diverted onto Mitchell Road while eastbound traffic will have to turn onto Flint Road during the investigation.

There's no estimated time to reopen the road.

This is a developing story

Editor's note: A previous version of this article indicated CHP said the alcohol/drug intoxication were a factor in the crash. The CHP has since corrected that statement to indicate alcohol/drug intoxication was not a factor.
