MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The California Highway Patrol confirmed that there was a minor-injury crash involving a big rig truck and a white Honda on Highway 101 at Potter Road.

The crash took place at 10:54 am on Thursday morning just outside of Salinas. Officers say the driver of the Honda had a laceration on his right hand, but suffered no other injuries.

The crash left lane two of the highway shutdown due to produce that the big rig had spilled on the roadway, according to officers. Lane one was immediately opened after the accident.

Extreme traffic continued throughout the afternoon while the big rig waited for a tow truck, said officers.

The reason for the Honda veering off the road and crashing behind the big rig as it was merging onto the freeway is still under investigation.

Officers say that traffic incidents involving big rigs are common in the area.
