Concord man dead after vehicle versus pedestrian crash outside of Castroville, CHP says

CASTROVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV)- The California Highway Patrol said that a 42-year-old man died after he was hit by a Mercedes early Sunday morning.

A spokesperson with the California Highway Patrol said a black Mercedes was driving westbound on Espinosa Road east of Highway 183 around 4:30 a.m.

Investigators said that a pedestrian was in the westbound lane of Espinosa Road, east of Highway 183 directly in the Mercedes' path of travel.

Officers said that the driver of the Mercedes was unable to avoid the pedestrian.

The CHP said that the front of the Mercedes struck the pedestrian. Investigators said that the pedestrian died at the scene.

Officers said that the Mercedes continued to travel west and the vehicle came to rest in an agricultural field.

The driver of the Mercedes stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation per CHP.

The identification of the 42-year-old man will be provided by the Monterey County Coroner’s Office when the next of kin has been notified.

At least one person killed in crash near Castroville

One person is dead after a crash near Castroville along Espinosa Road early Sunday morning.

CHP Dispatch said it happened close to the Highway 183 and Espinosa Road intersection.

The CHP would only confirmed they were investigating a "fatal incident," but couldn't provide additional information.

The CHP did confirm the road is clear for travel now after a partial closure this morning.
