Salinas Mayor Kimbley Craig announces she will not be seeking re-election
SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV)- After over a decade in politics, Salinas Mayor Kimbley Craig has told KION that she will not be seeking re-election.
Craig sent an email to KION saying that it was time to step away from mayoral position.
Craig was appointed the Mayor of Salinas after former Mayor Joe Gunter died in 2020. Craig has been serving on the Salinas City Council since 2010.
She is only the second woman to serve as Mayor of Salinas.
There will be four council seats and the mayor's seat will be up for reelection in November.
Craig's announcement comes on the heels of Steve McShane resigning from the City Council in April.
On Tuesday, Jesus Valenzuela was appointed to become serve the remainder of McShane's term.
