Seaside motorcyclist dead in five-vehicle crash on Highway 1, CHP says

CARMEL, Calif. (KION-TV)- The California Highway Patrol confirmed at least one motorcyclist has died after being involved in a five-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

An officer with the California Highway Patrol confirmed to KION that the crash happened on Northbound Highway 1 and Carpenter Street just before 6 a.m.

Officers said that a 17-year-old driver was driving a Ford Truck when he crossed the southbound lanes and crashed into a power pole on the west side of the roadway.

Officers said the pole and wires fell onto the roadway which resulted in four vehicles crashing into the pole and wires.

Investigators said a 44-year-old man was riding a Honda motorcycle when he crashed into the poles and wires. The CHP said the man died at the scene and they are investigating drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The 17-year-old driver was released back to his parents.
