Woman dead in car-vs-freightliner truck crash, CHP says
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV)- The California Highway Patrol confirmed at least one person has died in a car crash on Monday afternoon.
An officer told KION that the crash happened on Highway 25 and Bloomfield Avenue just outside of Gilroy around 12:45 p.m.
Crash involved a blue Honda Elantra and a red tractor/trailer freightliner.
An California Highway Patrol officer said that a 48-year-old man was driving a tractor-trailer northbound on Highway 25 approaching Bloomfield Avenue around 40 miles per hour.
A woman was driving a Hyundai Elantra west on Bloomfield Avenue approaching the intersection with Highway 25. The woman attempted to turn left onto Highway 25 when she went directly into the freightliner.
Investigators said that the front of the freightliner hit the Elantra and were stuck together until they pulled over the shoulder of Highway 25.
The woman died at the scene while the driver of the freightliner suffered minor injuries to his left hand. Both were the only occupants inside the vehicle.
It is unknown if drugs/alcohol were a factor in this crash and it is still too early to tell if the driver of the tractor/trailer could be facing charges per a spokesperson with the California Highway Patrol.
If you have any information regarding the crash, you are asked to contact the California Highway Patrol.
