Watsonville City Council appoints Tamara Vides as Interim City Manager

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION - TV)- On Tuesday night- The Watsonville City Council announced that former current assistant city manager, Tamara Vides, will serve as the Interim City Manager.

The current city manager, René Mendez, will officially leave the position to become the Salinas City Manager at the end of May 2024.

The Council voted to appoint Vides during Tuesday's City Council meeting.

"[Vides is] bringing her extensive experience and long-standing dedication to the City of Watsonville during this transitional period," said Watsonville Mayor Vanessa Quiroz-Carter.  

Vides was previously appointed Interim City Manager in 2021 and has worked for the City of Watsonville for nearly 25 years, holding a variety of different positions in the City Manager's office over the past 12 years.

The City will be contracting an executive search firm to manage recruitment and selection of a new City Manager. The City also expects that the search process will take a few months.
