SAN JOSE, Calif. (KION-TV)- The San Jose Sharks will be in the market for a new head coach.

San Jose Sharks General Manager Mike Grier announced on Wednesday that David Quinn has been relieved of his head coaching duties.

Quinn spent two seasons as the head coach of the Sharks and went 41-98-25.

"After going through our end of season process of internal meetings and evaluating where our team is at, we have made the difficult decision to make a change at the head coaching position." said Grier. "David is a good coach and an even better person.

Quinn was hired by Grier in July 2022 after the Sharks fired Bob Boughner. The Sharks were the worst team in the National Hockey League with a 19-54-9 record.

Los Tiburones are favored to win the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery and get the first draft pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. The top prospect in the draft is Macklin Celebrini who is the son of Golden State Warriors Director of Sports Medicine Rick Celebrini.

Grier also announced Head Athletic Trainer Ray Tufts will not be returning to the team.
