Soledad accepting applications for vacant seat on city council left by councilmember Ben Jimenez Jr.

SOLEDAD, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The City of Soledad is accepting applications for people living in the city looking to fill a vacant seat on the city council.

Ben Jimenez Jr. announced his resignation in recent weeks, opening the doors for someone to take over his seat on the council.

The city says Jimenez's departure was so he could spend time with his family.

Requirements for people to take apply include the following:

  • Must be a United States Citizen
  • Must be 18-years-old
  • Must live in the City of Soledad

All candidates will be verified through the Monterey County Elections Department Registrar of Voters.

Council will hold a special meeting to interview candidates on May 23 at 6 p.m. at council chambers. It's on this date the council expects to appoint a new council member.

Candidates may obtain an application at City Hall, 248 Main Street, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
