NFL Hall of Famer and controversial icon OJ Simpson passes away at 76

(KION-TV)- Former Buffalo Bills running back, NFL hall of famer, and controversial icon OJ Simpson has passed away at the age of 76 according to his family.

In a post on X, the family of Simpson posted that he succumbed to his battle with cancer on April 10th.

Simpson had reportedly been battling prostate cancer for several years before landing on hospice within the past few months.

During his football career, Simpson won the Heisman trophy at USC and was the first person to run for 2,000 yards in an NFL season during his time in Buffalo.

The hall of famer would more recently become more known for what was known as The Trial of the Century. On June 12th 1994, Simpson would be linked to the deaths of his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. He would stand trial on national TV with a team of defense lawyers led by Johnnie Cochran where he would be acquitted.
