People in Salinas frustrated with teenagers riding their bicycles recklessly

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV)- UPDATE ON APRIL 2, 2024 AT 11:44 A.M.- People living in Salinas are frustrated with multiple teenagers riding their bikes and blocking major intersections.

Salinas Mayor Kimbley Craig said that groups of kids are even riding on highways.

"“The other clip I saw they were on 101 North by Northridge Mall and that is it is an incline that goes uphill and so they couldn’t make it so they were grabbing onto the back of vehicles that were flying past them, which obviously endangers motorists and themselves," Craig said.

Salinas Police said they were able to arrest the juvenile who they found to be the organizer of the event with two others arrested.

The kids were arrested but then cited and released to their parents. Salinas Police Sgt. Zachary Dunagan said the three kids were charged with multiple crimes including felony evaiding.

"“The felony charges from yesterday‘s case stemmed from the way they invaded police when you have a police officer say it can rise to a felony," Dunagan said. "Depending on how they were consistently causing safety issues."

Lupe Galindo who lives in Salinas says he saw the kids riding recklessly at El Dorado Park.

"Be responsible if I do not know what kids are doing," Galindo said.

The Monterey County District Attorney's Office said they are waiting to receive the report from Salinas Police before announcing any charges.
