Salinas Police

SALINAS, CALIF. (KION-TV)- During Tuesday night's meeting, the City of Salinas recognized the officers from the Salinas Police Department that received the Medal of Valor and Award of Merit from the Monterey County Peace Officers Association for their help during the shooting on Sun Street.

On May 31st, 2023, Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputy Jesse Grant was serving an eviction order at an apartment on Sun Street in Salinas.

During the order, Grant was shot by 67-year-old Erin Howard Fisher who was living in the apartment.

Deputies were first to rescue Deputy Grant. That's when officers from Salinas PD responded to assist during the nine-hour standoff.

According to officials, response of officers played a crucial role in mitigating potential harm to our community and officers.

Assistant Chief John Murray also thanked the community for providing information that helped with evacuation of community members and information about the suspect.
