Wednesday practice rounds closed to the public due to inclement weather, players ready to face the challenge

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (KION-TV)- The familiar Crosby Clambake weather will be a dominant storyline for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Tournament officials announced that Wednesday's practice rounds at Pebble Beach Golf Course will be closed to the public.

"The safety of our fans is our top priority, and tomorrow’s predicted weather conditions make it challenging to proceed. We understand that this may be disappointing news, and we share in your frustration," the tournament said in a statement.

Lily Hansen who is the senior marketing manager for the Monterey Peninsula Foundation said that they wanted to get ahead of the curve.

"We wanted to make sure that we didn't have a situation where we had to evacuate everyone," Hansen said.

Hansen said the goal is to try and have a champion crowned by Sunday considering that the tournament went into Monday last year.

"We want to make sure that we can try to get everything in by Sunday," Hansen said. "But we keep an eye on it and have a plan in place."

The course looked like a ghost town on Wednesday afternoon with grandstands sitting empty.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is ready to face the challenge.

"I’m a mudder, I mean, I've I lived in Wisconsin for 18 years, so I can deal with that in the elements," Rodgers said. "But, you know, one of these years it'll be nice to have like a 75 and, and limited wind."

Spectators who were planning to head out to the course on Wednesday will now have two options.

Fans will be able to have their tickets transferred to Thursday Feb. 1 and there will be no additional fees associated with the transfer.

If fans cannot make it out to the first round, then you will be eligible for a refund which you can email at tickets@attpbgolf.com  by Thursday night at 11:59 p.m. Staff will be able to process the refund to your form of payment.
