Rental assistance program opens for those in Monterey facing housing instability
MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Community members facing housing instability in Monterey can apply for this year's rental assistance program on Friday.
Beginning on March 14, an application will open up online for applicants to apply from the hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
If accepted, the City will provide up to three months of rental assistance, which is capped at $5,000.
That's not the only assistance being provided. The program offers a loan deposit, housing counseling, and one-time legal assistance.
These applications will be accepted on a first come, first-served basis.
Once this application is closed, other applicants can apply each month on the 15th while program funds remain available.

To be eligible for assistance, applicants must live in Monterey, have a rent payment history, provide a lease agreement, and make less than 120 percent of the City's Area Median Income.
The program's funds come from a City Council resolution passed in March 2024 that set aside $250,000 from the General Fund.
The application is available in English and Spanish.
