Three juveniles arrested after allegedly stealing a car in Gonzales and leading deputies on a car chase
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV)- The Monterey County Sheriff's Office said that three juveniles are in custody after being caught in a stolen car and leading deputies on a car chase throughout South Monterey County on Sunday night.
Deputies said the incident took place around 7:43 p.m. in Gonzales when they got a call about a vehicle theft.
Investigators were able to locate the car in Chualar with three people inside and that is when the chase started on Northbound Highway 101.
Deputies said that the Soledad Police Department helped assist in the pursuit as they used spike strips to stop the vehicle.
The Sheriff's Office said that the driver drove the vehicle on the North Front Street exit off-ramp.
Deputies said that they tried to bring the driver into custody and the driver sped up and crashed into a patrol car which almost hit the deputy.
Deputies said that one of the passengers who was seated in the back of the car did try and evade police. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office said that they deployed their K9 unit and their K9 apprehended the juvenile.
All three juveniles were arrested and booked into the Monterey County Juvenile Hall on felony evading and carjacking charges. Deputies did say that one of the juveniles will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and battery on a police officer.
