17-year-old suspect arrested for McKenzie Avenue murder in Watsonville

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) Update August 17, 2023, at 2:04 p.m.- Watsonville Police said they arrested a teen suspect for a murder that occurred on August 4 on 800 block of McKenzie Avenue.

Police said the 17-year-old was booked into Juvenile Hall on murder charges. He is accused of murdering 23-year-old Michael Turner, a resident of Watsonville.

The teen suspect turned himself in and was taken into custody at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Man killed after shooting in Watsonville on McKenzie Avenue identified

UPDATE AUGUST 10, 2023, at 1:58 p.m.- The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office has identified the 23-year-old man shot and killed on the 800 block of McKenzie Avenue Friday.

Michael Turner, a resident of Watsonville, was identified as the victim found near a sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at around 10 a.m. Watsonville Police said he died on the scene from his injuries.

Watsonville Police says they have no updates or suspect information available for release.

Watsonville is currently at the scene of a deadly shooting that occurred around 10 a.m. on the 800 block of McKenzie Avenue.

Police say they received multiple 911 calls regarding gunshots in the area around that time. Police found a 23-year-old man near a sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Medical aid was rendered but the man died on the scene from his injuries.

Police currently have no suspect information available for release. According to investigators, this is an isolated incident.

McKenzie and Tuttle Avenue and surrounding streets will remain closed for several hours while police investigate.
