WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Early Tuesday morning the CHP Santa Cruz says that there was a DUI crash on Casserly Rd that took down a power pole.

According to the CHP, at about 1:20 a.m. a green Toyota veered off Casserly Rd near Smith Rd and collided with a power pole, which ended up taking out electricity to multiple homes in the area and left power lines blocking the roadway.

The CHP says that the 31-year-old driver of Watsonville had major injuries as a result of the crash and was arrested for DUI.

The road was closed between Mt. Madonna and Smith roads through early Tuesday morning. The CHP asked drivers to avoid the area and find alternate routes.

This is a developing story.
