Artichoke Festival canceled for 2025, organizers announce closure of annual event
CASTROVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) - Organizers of the Artichoke Festival announced the 2025 event has been canceled, and the annual event will officially close after 65 years.
The event website was updated Saturday with the announcement of the event's closure.
"This decision, made after months of thoughtful consideration, stems from the growing financial strain caused by increasing event production costs, insurance premiums, permitting requirements, and operational challenges that have made it no longer feasible to continue," the website said.
The festival board adds, "ending the festival is one of the most difficult decisions we’ve ever had to make, but the financial realities we now face are insurmountable."
The Artichoke Festival was founded back in 1959 as a celebration of Monterey County's agricultural bounty and community spirit.
Those behind the festival said, "to the community of Castroville and the entire Monterey County region: thank you. You’ve helped make the Artichoke Festival more than an event—you made it a home.”
The 2025 event was originally scheduled for June 14-15 at the Monterey County Sheriff's Posse Grounds in Salinas, prior to the cancelation.
