The California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced on Tuesday that Salmon fishing season in California is being canceled for the third year in a row, it's the first time Salmon Season has been canceled for 3 consecutive years in history.

It comes after recommendations from the Pacific Fishery Management Council, recommending California's commercial Salmon season be closed once again due to the continuing fall off of the local salmon population. The council also recommending the opening of recreational Salmon fishing in the golden state for the first time since 2022.

The recreational season will only allow the fishing on specified weekends in the Summer and Fall. It begins on June 7th and 8th all along the California coast with a summer harvest guideline of 7,000 Chinook Salmon. If that number isn't fished on that first weekend, another weekend will open up for fishing from July 5th to 6th.

Another period will open up in the Fall between Point Sur and Point Reyes, with a Fall Harvest Guideline of 7,500 fish, going from September 4th to 7th. If that number isn't reached, another weekend will open up for fishing on September 29th and 30th.

In all recreation fishing periods, the minimum size limit is 20 inches in total length, with a bag limit of 2 salmon per day.
