MOSS LANDING, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The County of Monterey announced Tuesday afternoon that the first part of phase one, known as the "Battery De-Linking (Round 1)" of the Moss Landing battery de-linking, finished last Thursday.

According to the County of Monterey, the next step in phase one involves "Battery Removal and Staging," which has not begun yet.

The county says that they are currently planning and permitting this section of phase one, which involves removal of batteries from the Moss300 building and staged in preparation for transport.

"The staging area will be located away from the Moss300 building, but within the fenceline, with the intention of reducing the risk of reignition hazards," wrote the county on its disaster recovery website page.

"We're not out of the woods, but rapidly making progress," said the Director of Emergency Management Kelsey Scanlon.

The county says that they will continue offering updates as progress on the battery cleanup is made.

KION News previously reported on the progress of de-linking the batteries, which can be viewed here.
