MARINA, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The City of Marina is considering an ordinance that would raise the current salaries of the City Council as well as the Mayor to be consistent with the current cost of living along the Central Coast.

The ordinance is being considered during the council's meeting Wednesday, potentially bringing the mayor's current rate of $250 per month up to $2,250 per month, as well as council members up from $200 per month to $2,000 per month.

If approved, this would be rolled out as an "all-inclusive total stipend," according to the city.

The city says that benefits would still have to be paid for by council members as they currently are now. The mayor and city council members would, however, be eligible to enroll in health, dental and vision plans offered by the city at cost to the employee.

This would be the City of Marina's first salary increase since September 1990 if it gets approved.
