CARMEL, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The Carmel River, a location prone to flooding, held out during the wet weather Thursday.

Although rain was coming down hard Thursday afternoon, some people still came out to enjoy the water. But, this isn't always the case...

“Rising waters have always been a concern since I lived here. We were evacuated last year and so it seems to be a regular occurrence here in Carmel," said Carmel resident Lisa Ballan. “When we came here in 2022 and purchased our home, we had to sign disclosures around knowing what the flood risks were, since our house was flooded twice in the last 40 years."

Sandbags were lined up all along the neighborhood by Carmel River State Beach and machines could be seen draining water in the area Thursday afternoon.

According to NOAA, the record the record high water level in the area is 12.9 feet, although it didn't get near that amount Thursday.
