South Monterey County heat impacts
KING CITY, Calif. (KION-TV): People were staying in the shade trying to beat the heat on Wednesday afternoon in King City.
People like Norma Gurss, who lives in King City, said she's always prepared when there's a heat wave.
"I have all my curtains and drapes in my house closed, all my windows are closed, all my doors are closed, I did that early this morning at 7 am," said Gurss.
Gurss said she only goes outside when it's something urgent, but she always tries to stay indoors because she is not a fan of the heat. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory from Wednesday through Thursday for parts of the Central Coast.
Monterey County officials are asking people to please stay safe during the heat, as well as their furry friends.
"Drink more water than normal," said Nicholas Pasculli, Chief Public Information Officer for the County of Monterey. "That is so important, don't wait until you're thirsty."
Pasculli also said to never leave your pets or children inside your car when it's hot.
"Never leave pets or your children in a car," said Pasculli. "For any reason, it's not a good thing at all, it's dangerous and unfortunately we know that there's tragedies around the country and in our state when people don't adhere to that."
And for people like Maria Elena Avalos, she said she likes being indoors when it's hot, but her son doesn't.
"My son is autistic, it's hard to be inside all the time at the house because outside is really hot," said Avalos.
The County of Monterey said they don't have cooling centers open, but the libraries are open and people can cool off there.
