Man killed in Thursday morning vehicle vs. pedestrian incident in Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) - On Thursday morning, a 30-year man from Santa Cruz County was killed following a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash in Santa Cruz, according to Santa Cruz Police.

Officials said, emergency personnel responded to the incident around 2:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Highway 1 and River Street. The vehicle was reportedly traveling northbound on Highway 1, when police say it collided with a 30-year-old male pedestrian who was crossing the roadway.

Police add, first responders administered life-saving measures, but the the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending next of kin notification.

According to Santa Cruz Police, the driver remained on scene and fully cooperated with investigators.  At this time, officials say there is no evidence of driver impairment or negligence and no arrests have been made.
