Pacific Grove weekend kick off starting with Pet Parade
PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. (KION-TV): Several events took place in Pacific Grove on Friday and will be taking place tomorrow hosted by the PG Youth Ambassadors.
The pet parade was in full swing Friday afternoon, and people who live in Pacific grove couldn't be more excited.
"I think it's great and I think people lived here all their lives and who have moved away come back just for this event, and I think it's fantastic." said Jenny Everts, who lives in Pacific Grove.
The pet parade is one of many events happening this weekend in the city of the butterflies, organized by the PG Youth Ambassadors. On Saturday there's another event at Lovers Point called summer lights.
The PG Youth Ambassadors said the summer lights will end with a special lights show at Lovers Point, and for business owners in Pacific Grove, they said when there's event like these, there's more cash flow.
"It's a direct impact on business, it's 100%, when people are in town, you fill it." said Liz Jacobs, owner of Wild Fish restaurant.
And for some high schoolers who are part of the PG youth ambassadors they said joining a program like this is really important because they get scholarship money for college.
"1,000 dollars each year, so, I'm going to have 3,000 by the time i'm out of this program." said Claire Qasem, President of the PG Youth Ambassadors.
The PG Youth Ambassadors said with the money they allocate from each event goes to their scholarships and organizing events. The PG Youth Ambassadors is also hosting a Boots & Blazers barn dance at Chautauqua Hall in Pacific Grove on Friday from 6 - 9 p.m.
