Hernandez Fire in south San Benito County grows to 600 acres

SAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Cal Fire BEU is still working to contain the Hernandez Fire burning in South San Benito County.

The fire has burned around 600 acres along Coalinga Road near Highway 25.

Containment as of June 16 at 10:44 a.m. was around 25%.

It's unclear how the fire started at this time.

Crews battling Hernandez Fire in south San Benito County

Cal Fire BEU said it's battling a vegetation fire burning on the 800 block of Old Hernandez Road that sparked Saturday evening.

The fire has burned at least 400 acres, according to the agency. Forward progress has not been stopped and containment is at 20%.

CAL FIRE told KION there are no homes nearby the blaze, but that it was heading towards some oil wells in that area.

100 personnel have been sent to put out the fire, as well as two helicopters, 11 engines, and two water tenders.
