Cal Fire reaches full containment of Panoche Fire in San Benito County

SAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The Panoche Fire in San Benito County is now fully contained.

Cal Fire BEU making the announcement on Tuesday night.

The fire burned 191 acres before firefighters got a handle on the blaze that started on Saturday.

No injuries were reported or structures threatened from the fire that burned along New Idria Road.

ORIGINAL STORY:

As of Saturday evening, Cal Fire BEU said the Panoche Fire is at 191 acres and 40% contained with forward progress stopping.

Fire officials add, the fire is in a remote portion of eastern San Benito County and no people or structures are threatened at this time.

Additional crews from areas such as Fresno, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo are also helping in fighting the fire.

Crews will remain there overnight with new crews arriving on Sunday morning, according to fire officials.

UPDATE MAY 25, 2024 2:11 P.M. - Cal Fire said around 2 p.m. the Panoche Fire had grown to 180 acres and was at 10% containment.

More ground and air resources have been requested and they are working in unified command with the Hollister Fire Department.

ORIGINAL STORY: Cal Fire BEU said firefighters are responding to what's being called the Panoche Fire on New Idria Road in east San Benito County.

The agency said the vegetation fire is at 100 acres and burning in grass and brush. Additional ground and air resources have been requested.
