Pajaro businesses continue on the road to recovery after flooding

PAJARO, Calif. (KION-TV)- Businesses in Pajaro are looking for ways to continue building back stronger after the flooding earlier this year.

That's the goal of both Casa De La Cultura and an alliance formed between dozens of business owners in the small town.

"We want to build it back better for our future generations," said Connie Alvarez, business owner of Alvarez Collision and Paint.

Connie and her husband said they owe a lot to both programs for helping them during tough times.

The shop was one of many damaged as a result of the disastrous flooding in the town in March.

"They have been helping us to get more information on what's out there regarding our business plans and how how can we work together to build back," said Alvarez.

About 40 business owners now meet regularly to discuss the town's recovery process, they're called the Pajaro Disaster Long Term Recovery Alianza.

"The business group formed after the flood because we couldn't get any information or help," said Alvarez.

The Monterey Bay Economic Partnership says they're helping in Pajaro by conducting a needs assessment.

The county recently set aside $20 million in state funds to help with individual assistance and small businesses still recovering in Pajaro.

The funding will also help with other projects in the town.
