Warning signs in local trees as storms brew on Central Coast
PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. (KION-TV): Rain is expected on the Central Coast next week and people who live on the Peninsula are worried about the amount of trees that toppled over power lines earlier this year.
Some people in Pacific Grove still remember the days they had no power because of fallen trees.
"I lost a lot of groceries because my refrigerator wouldn’t work, three days," said Martie Thummer, who lives in Pacific Grove. "And I stayed in a hotel because I couldn't take a shower, I couldn't cook."
"The amount of groceries that we lost 2–3 days at a time," said Andre Adams, who lives in Pacific Grove. "The electrical everything being down."
People are taking action now when it comes to their trees since rain is expected next week.
"My property is fireproof or whatever," said Thummer. "I cut everything up to 10 ft, I clear all the leaves."
And not only Thummer is getting prepared, but PG&E said people who live near a lot of trees should do the following.
"We suggest cutting or trimming tree branches," said Evelyn Escalara, Public Information Officer for PG&E. "Especially those hanging ones that might fall off during storms, that would be one for safety."
PG&E also said people should watch out for trees that are leaning.
