Candidates for Monterey County Sheriff

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) With Sheriff Steve Bernal retiring, two of the candidates are looking to move up from within the department and two local police chiefs want the position - one could become the first woman ever to lead the Sheriff’s Office.

The primary election is taking place on June 7 if none of the candidates receives more than 50 percent of the vote— which can be difficult in a four-way race — the top two candidates will compete in a runoff in the November general election.
