UC Santa Cruz announces Police Chief’s retirement

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) UC Santa Cruz police announced that Chief Nader Oweis will be retiring on Dec. 4.

According to the police department, Oweis has served as the chief for more than nine years, but he has spent more than 26 years working in the UC system at UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz.

"... He has been our tireless community ambassador, promoting Community Oriented Policing ant the pillars of 21st Century Policing while instilling technology use, education and training, caretaking and harm reduction as the forefront of our core values," the department said in a statement.

They said he recently became the UC Coordinator of Police Services, a position that involves coordinating the Council of Police Chiefs from the UC's 10 campuses.
