SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors is inviting community members to join its special meeting for a safety presentation about risks to residents and properties after fires.

In rainy seasons after severe fires, such as the CZU Lightning Complex, the county said there is a significantly elevated risk of flooding, mudflows and debris flow. A Watershed Emergency Response Team performed an initial analysis of the burn area, and it showed that debris flow is likely in some areas and "could lead to a secondary disaster."

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday. There is some seating on the 5th floor of the board chambers and overflow basement community room, but it is limited because of COVID-19. Community members can also watch it online here.
