Capitola Police Officer hit by driver suspected of DUI over holiday weekend

CAPITOLA, Calif. (KION) The California Highway Patrol said a Capitola Police Officer was hit by a driver while on duty Saturday.

Just before 8 p.m., the officer was riding a motorcycle near Capitola Road and 49th Avenue when a Hyundai Genesis made a left turn in front of the officer, hitting the motorcycle.

Investigators said the driver, 29-year-old Kolton Matosich, was under the influence of alcohol and left the scene. Another driver followed him and facilitated his return to the scene, according to the CHP.

Matosich was arrested for felony DUI. The officer had minor injuries.
