Salinas Police Chief named as candidate for position at Texas police department
SAN MARCOS, Texas (KION) The San Marcos Police Department is looking for a new Chief of Police, and Chief Adele Frese with the Salinas Police Department was named as one of the candidates.
Frese has worked for the Salinas Police Department since 2016, and she already had more than 20 years of law enforcement experience with other agencies. Her career began with her service in the Marine Corps in 1985.
Prior to becoming the Salinas Police Chief, she was the Chief of Police in Greenfield.
According to statistics released by the Salinas Police Department, there were 40 murders in 2015, the year before she started, but only 8 were reported last year. The number of armed robberies was also reduced from 230 in 2015 when compared to 114 in 2019.
Police also teamed up with the City's library and Community Services Department to grow the Neighborhood Watch Program. It did not exist for a few years because of budget and staffing constraints, but it was brought back in 2016, the year Frese started.
Last year, members of the Salinas Police Officers Association approved a vote of no confidence in Frese, saying they no longer had confidence in her ability to lead the department.
San Marcos police said she is one of five candidates selected to interview for the position out of 92 candidates, and the interview process is scheduled for this month.
Based on the interviews, the candidate pool will be narrowed down to two or three candidates, who will be brought in for another interview before a final candidate is chosen.
