Salinas Police Officers Association approves vote of no confidence in chief

Members of the Salinas Police Officers Association approved a vote of no confidence in Chief Adele Frese last week.

In a press release, the SPOA said the vote was called for and approved by the general membership because they no longer had confidence in Frese’s ability to lead the department.

“For some time, there has been an overwhelming concern with the Chief’s inability to address critical issues faced by the department including recruiting and retaining officers, police staffing levels, advocating for department resources and improving departmental morale,” said SPOA President Jim Knowlton.

Knowlton said the SPOA has worked for several years to address the issues with Frese. He said the department has not been provided a plan on how she would address changes in the department in a timely fashion.
