Watch: Monterey County woman reunited with dogs after evacuation orders lifted

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) A joyous moment was caught on camera after evacuation orders were lifted for some areas surrounding the River Fire Monday.

The SPCA Monterey County shared video of a reunion that happened at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. Laura, who lives near Corral de Tierra, was evacuated from her home, but she was able to reunite with her dogs, Marley and Shadow, when evacuation orders lifted at her home.

To pick up dogs and cats left with the SPCA, call 831-373-2634 for a time and location to get them. Owners of horses and other barn animals are asked to go to the location where they dropped their pets off. If the SPCA evacuated them, call the number above.

The organization was under an evacuation warning starting Saturday and moved the animals to different locations, but it is still rescuing and evacuating animals from the fires. For emergency help or for help with an animal in a mandatory evacuation area, call 831-373-2631 during the day or 831-264-5455 at night.

The SPCA currently does not have any pets available for adoption, but said its adoptable pets are safe and have been taken in by rescue groups and humane societies. When the fires die down, the organization will resume adoptions.
