Miracle mountain house survives wildfires
BONNY DOON, Calif. (KION) - As fires continue to burn on the Central Coast... a story of resilience amid the flames.
Cellphone video from Bonny Doon shows what was left after flames ripped through the area.
Much of what can be seen is charred and buildings that used to be standing are no longer there.
Multiple houses have burned to the ground completely, but there's a miracle in the mountains. A house, built by a local, remains unscathed.
"When you come around the corner and you see that the house is not even not burnt its untouched. The fire came right up to the house and stopped and as I said in my video my husband who built it passed away last year and there really no explanation, there's no reason that the house shouldn't be standing there anymore," says homeowner Gina Loftis.
Fortunately, Loftis was not at the home when fires got close to the house, and either was the family who is renting the property. The family who is renting the house has been displaced, as roads in that area remain closed off or are too dangerous to access.
As the fires continue to grow tonight, it’s important to stay aware of road closures and evacuation orders.
