Two arrested in connection to homicide on Mission Street

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) Two men have been arrested in connection to the shooting death of 28-year-old Juan Antonio Ruiz in Santa Cruz last month.

Police said they arrested Sergio Alvarez-Lopez and Jonathan Dominguez Friday after serving search warrants in several locations. Both were booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.

On July 28, police responded to a report of a shooting victim on Mission Street north of Swift Street. When officers got there, they found Ruiz in the front passenger seat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound.

Ruiz was taken to Dominican Hospital, where he died of his injuries.
