Salinas firefighters leave Mineral Fire to fight Gold Fire

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) A group of firefighters from Salinas have been battling the Mineral Fire in Fresno County, but now they are heading north.

Strike Team 2175C is heading to the Gold Fire in Lassen County now.

The Salinas City Firefighters Association said Wednesday is day 7 of a 14-day commitment to offer mutual aid. It said staffing in Salinas is not affected.

As of 6:55 a.m., the Mineral Fire was 29,667 acres and 75% contained. As of 10:30 a.m., the Gold Fire was 14,000 acres and 5% contained. Evacuations due to the Mineral Fire ended, but evacuation orders are in place for the Gold Fire.
